We’re all beginners again. The tools changed under everyone at once, so nobody here has to prove they belong — not the person who shipped their first thing this morning, and not the one who has been building for twenty years.
The test
Anything you would say to someone whose work you respect. What you are making, what you are using, what broke, what you learned, what shipped.
That is deliberately broad. Software, hardware, deep tech, a game, a company, a paper you read on the train. Nobody is going to ask whether your post was about AI enough, because that question has no good answer and asking it would make this a smaller place than it should be.
What doesn’t
Three things, and they are short because a long list is a list nobody reads.
- Politics, culture war, crime, celebrity
- Unless the technology is genuinely the story rather than the hook. There are better places for the rest, and they are very good at it.
- Posts written to be argued with
- You can tell. So can everyone else. The tell is that the post would be pointless if everyone agreed.
- Someone else’s work, posted as yours
- Credit the people and name the models. That is what the built-with card is for, and it is the most interesting part of most posts here.
Why this mostly works without anyone enforcing it
There is no trending tab to capture, no hashtag to organise around, and no algorithm deciding what you see — your feed is the people you follow, newest first. The machinery that makes an argument profitable somewhere else is not built here, and it is not going to be.
So this page is a description of the place rather than a threat. If something genuinely does not belong, report it and a person will look.
If we remove something
You get told, with the post attached, and you can reply. We would rather explain a decision than have you guess at one.
